Scattered Afternoon Showers and Thunderstorms Expected Again Across Much of the State Today…A Few Storms Could Be Strong…Increased Rip Current Threat along Panhandle Beaches…Tropical Storm Chantal forms in the Northern Atlantic...

Another day of scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms is expected for the Florida Panhandle and North Florida area today as a weakening cold front across southern Georgia and Alabama slowly approaches the Florida state border from the north today while keeping abundant moisture and instability across the area. The first chance of rain in Florida will be early this afternoon and evening along the gulf coast sea breeze. Steering flow will be from the north today, so showers developing near the front will be pushed southward and any storms developing with the sea breeze will likely remain south of the Florida border. Thunderstorms today will most likely contain frequent to excessive lightning and brief downpours with rainfall amounts between 2 and 3 inches. A few strong storms may produce strong gusty winds and small hail. Similar to Monday, storms should decrease in intensity during the evening with the loss of daytime heating, but a few scattered showers will be possible over inland areas tonight as the front continues to move south. The front is expected to stall across North Florida and the northern Gulf coast by Wednesday, with drier air behind the front.
With the cold front positioned to the north and high pressure positioned to the south of the Peninsula, a moist southwest flow will result between the two systems. Plenty of moisture and instability will result in scattered to numerous storms across much of the area. With strong southwest flow, the west coast sea breeze will dominate the weather pattern today and scattered storms are expected along and ahead of the sea breeze as it moves onshore later this morning. In addition, an upper level disturbance in the eastern Gulf of Mexico will also push storms from the Gulf into western Peninsula counties throughout the day. Storms will increase in coverage and intensity as they combine with daytime heating and move inland with showers reaching Central Florida around noon and the east coast during the afternoon hours. The greatest threats with thunderstorms today will be frequent lightning and heavy rainfall. Gusty winds and small hail are possible in the more intense storms. Waterspouts may also form with strong storms over the water, with the greatest threat area along the Treasure and Space coasts. A few scattered storms are possible along the east coast through the evening, but should dissipate by midnight.

A moderate risk of rip currents is expected along Florida Panhandle and Big Bend beaches.

(yea!! something too keep our eye on)

In the tropics, three tropical waves along with an area of low pressure and Tropical Storm Chantal are positioned over the Caribbean Sea, Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean. Tropical Storm Chantal, located about 380 miles north of Bermuda is expected to move away from the U.S. while transitioning to an extratropical system as it moves into cooler waters. An area of low pressure within a tropical wave is located about 700 miles east of the Windward Islands is becoming better organized. Conditions are favorable for development and it could become a tropical depression within the next few days. It is expected to move west at about 15mph and computer models bring the system into the central Caribbean this weekend.

Yesterday was a great cloud day cu's going up every where, west coast breeze pushed everything away but I love to stalk those clouds!!

Scattered Afternoon Showers and Thunderstorms Expected Each Afternoon through the Weekend…Locally Heavy Rainfall Possible in Some Areas…A Few Storms Could Be Strong…Increased Rip Current Threat along a Portion of the Florida Atlantic Coast…

An upper level trough of low pressure over the eastern U.S. and a surface ridge of high pressure over the Southeast will continue to drive the weather pattern across Florida through Sunday.
A moist and fairly unstable air mass will linger across the state, fueling the development of scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly from northeastern Florida southward into the peninsula where the deeper moisture lies. Over the remainder of northern Florida, slightly drier air moving in from the north will suppress much of the activity, but isolated thunderstorms are still possible. Storms will be confined to the coastal areas during the morning, spreading into the interior and becoming more numerous later in the afternoon as sea breeze boundaries move inland and outflow boundaries from ongoing thunderstorms collide and trigger additional storms. The potential for widespread severe weather is low; however, a few storms could become quite strong or even briefly severe. Periods of locally heavy rainfall are possible within the stronger storms and—as in previous days—the potential exists for temporary flooding of some streets and low-lying areas. In addition, any thunderstorm may produce frequent and very deadly cloud-to-ground lightning(Giving Jessika Bland -Local storm chaser- the upper hand). Other threats include wind gusts up to 45 mph and small hail. Also, there will be a threat of isolated waterspouts along the coastal areas. Some of these waterspouts may move onshore and become short-lived tornadoes, causing minor damage. sounds like my kind of weekend!!

Monitor local media or NOAA Weather Radio throughout the weekend for any statements and/or warnings issued by the National Weather Service. Remember…IF YOU CAN HEAR THUNDER, YOU ARE CLOSE ENOUGH TO A STORM TO BE STRUCK BY LIGHTNING! Move indoors immediately when a thunderstorm approaches, stay away from windows, and avoid using electrical appliances and telephones.

Scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected once again Saturday and Sunday, which is typical for this time of year. Most of the activity will be from northeastern Florida and south into the peninsula, but isolated to scattered thunderstorms over north and northwestern areas of the state cannot be ruled out. The main threats will continue to be dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning strikes, locally heavy rainfall, and brief gusty winds. Storms should diminish in coverage and intensity by the late evening hours. A frontal boundary is forecast to dip into the Southeast on Sunday, increasing rain chances over northern sections of Florida by the first half of next week. Rain chances over the remainder of the state will remain decent.

There will be a moderate threat of rip currents Friday through Sunday along the East Central Florida coast. Beachgoers should consult with local lifeguards or beach patrol about surf conditions before venturing into the water.

At this time, no tropical cyclones are forecast to develop through the next couple of days. An area of showers and thunderstorms which has persisted over the western Gulf of Mexico for the past few days will begin to move over the Texas/Louisiana coast Friday.( poor guys they ont need any more) No organization of this system will occur due to unfavorable conditions( Darn shear!)

Have a great week end!!!

Twister Sisters

Airing in the early fall
on WE: Women's Entertainment
Twister Sisters
Tornadoes are nature’s most violent and destructive atmospheric phenomenon. About a thousand of them touch down in the United States each year, a huge percentage of them in a region known as “Tornado Alley.” Peggy Willenberg and Melanie Metz are partners in the Twister Sisters tornado tour company, which they have owned and operated for the past five years. Every May the two women kiss their husbands and families goodbye and head out on the road for their annual pilgrimage across the Great Plains, in search of the biggest and baddest twisters around.

a little excursion

My hubby and son and i went on a little excursion Saturday, not a chase but to check out area to chase at trying to find a good spot in the east to watch the storms go up in the sea breeze boundaries.
I did make a special stop in shaddy hills to check out crews lake.
It was hit real hard with the last drought and i wanted to see if it made it trough this one... sadly the lake is no longer....

As you can see this huge lake is completely gone. sad i don't think any amount of rain can save crews.
After that we head east on 52 past San Antonio up to Dade city turn north on 98 and cruised through two counties, Hernando and sumnter. I realized nope this wasn't gonna cut it to many damn trees. I did get a couple shots but next week i gonna take 54 to see if at least i can find some open fields.

I dont know why the color is the way it is onthis photo...

Hopefully he high pressure sitting over my state will lift before next week so maybe i can do some real chasing. my hubby is liking my new hobby, hes got all sorts of plains for chasing.

I have a long week ahead of me i'm working six days and two of the days are doubles so i don't see myself blogging to much this week, so to any one that reads this have a great week!!
